Year 12

With the end of Semester 1 approaching, it is now the time for all students to be focused on the requirements of successfully completing a VCE certificate. In a recent Pastoral Session I spoke of active learning and that to be successful requires hard work and determination. We unpacked the quote by Estee Lauder, “I never dreamed about success. I worked for it”. This means utilising the support on offer such as the ‘Hour of Power’ and Maths Help, being focussed in class time and completing the recommended three hours of homework each night.

We also discussed the mind-body connection. A strengthened mind-body connection may promote greater resilience against daily stressors. When we are more in tune with our bodies, we may be able to sense the initial signs of stress including a fast heartbeat or tense muscles. Recognising these signs early can lead to timely interventions, like taking deep breaths or practicing mindfulness, to counteract and manage stress more effectively. To demonstrate how these may work students, were invited to engage in an active session of Zumba or a quite reflective meditation or a yoga session. These were enjoyed and we hope to provide more options in the future.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

On 18 June, all students completing the VCE will complete their first external assessment which is the General Achievement test. Last Day 8 they had the opportunity of completing a practice GAT which was marked by an external assessor to enable them to see where they might be able to make some improvement. I encourage all students to ensure that they carefully read the criteria for assessment and reflect on the overall comments made prior to the day.

Student News

Year 12 student, Emily Smith represented Kilbreda recently at the Athletics Victoria Schools Race Walking Championships finishing in second place in the U/20 10km walk.  She had a solid walk finishing in a time of 58.22. What an incredible effort and pleasure it has been watching Emily excel over her time at Kilbreda doing something she loves. Congratulations Emily!
