VCE VM – Vocational Major
Enrichment Day at Cranbourne Botanic Gardens
On Monday 5 August, the VCE VM students visited the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens for their Enrichment Day. This was a very enjoyable experience in which we got to learn about different plants and unique flora. The garden features various themed areas, including deserts, wetlands, and woodlands, highlighting the adaptability of native plants to different environments. The landscape includes amazing elements like the Red Sand Garden and the Water Garden, which showcase plants in their natural habitats. Throughout the tour we were able to feel, touch, taste and smell various plants. Some included native berries, traditional macadamias, different types of mint leaves and strawberry gum. We also learnt some techniques of how to weave with native plants to create baskets or tools.
Overall, the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens offers an interesting and educational experience where the VCE VM students learnt some amazing new things.

VCE VM Numeracy Fundraisers
In the first two weeks of August, both VCE VM classes had to run a fundraiser which was part of completing a unit in their Numeracy subject. Each class had a budget of $200 and both classes came up with unique plans for their fundraisers to help raise money for their chosen charity.
12VCE VM 002:
On Monday 12 August, the VM Class 002 worked as a group to set up their Sausage Sizzle, Pancakes, Cupcake Decorating and Chocolate Toss. To help the fundraiser run efficiently, they made sure to prepare the cupcakes in advance and have a list of everything that needed to be purchased before the event. Prior to the fundraiser, the class made posters to advertise prices, activities and food. They let students know who would benefit from the donations. The posters were plastered all over the school. On the day, the fundraiser ran smoothly. Everyone was at their station. Due to high demand for sausages, there was a huge line. The line was also quite large due to having only one EFTPOS machine. By the end of lunchtime, the class had cooked and sold all of the sausages and pancakes, successfully raising a total of $803 for the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP). Asylum seekers in the Australian community are supported by the wonderful workers at BASP.
12VCE VM 001:
On Tuesday 13 August, VM Class 001 had their fundraiser. They had originally planned a Sausage Sizzle, ‘Guess the Lollies in the Jar’ competition, and a Teacher Lip Sync Battle. Due to unfortunate circumstances they had to cancel the Lip Sync Battle. Prior to the day, posters were made advertising the important details of the fundraiser. Before the fundraiser, a student from the class made an announcement from the office to remind people to bring their money to support the event. More sausages were made available as they were so popular in the first fundraiser. Overall, the event ran smoothly due to everyone completing their duties and contributing to the cooking, selling and preparation of the sausages. The students running the lolly jar competition were pleased when someone successfully guessed the exact number of lollies in the jar (112). The class raised a total of $613 which was donated to Wellsprings for Women. Wellsprings for Women is a charity which is committed to protecting children, young people and adults from abuse in forms including emotional, physical and sexual abuse, as well as the abuse through misuse of digital technology.
A total of $1,416 was raised by both classes. We are all proud to know that money is going towards such important causes.
