Sustainability Net-Zero Camp:
Last week, our dedicated students Alicia Vu and Ella Wall had the incredible opportunity to attend the Kildare Ministries-led ‘Sustainability Net-Zero’ camp, held at the Holy Cross Centre in Templestowe. This camp, focused on fostering environmental stewardship and spiritual resilience, proved to be an enriching experience that our students will bring back to our school community with great enthusiasm.
During their time at the camp, Alicia and Ella engaged in a variety of inspiring activities designed to deepen their understanding of sustainability and ecological responsibility. They were fortunate to hear from several distinguished guest speakers, each contributing valuable insights into different aspects of sustainability.
Guest Speakers and Learning Experiences:
- Josephite Justice Network: Alicia and Ella listened intently to representatives from the Josephite Justice Network, who spoke about the importance of building spiritual resilience and effective networking in the pursuit of justice and sustainability. Their discussion emphasised how inner strength and community connections can drive meaningful change.
- Lauren Dillon: They also had the privilege of hearing from Lauren Dillon, a past pupil from Killester College, who played a pivotal role in establishing this very camp. Lauren’s talk provided a personal and inspirational perspective on the camp’s origins and its impact.
- Alice Cawardine: Alice Cawardine’s presentation on integral ecology and Laudato Si offered profound insights into the connection between our mind, body, and spirit and our relationship with the earth. Her message underscored the importance of holistic approaches to environmental stewardship.
- Psycho-Dramas with Jet: Alicia and Ella participated in psycho-dramas where they created endangered species face masks and engaged in role-playing activities. These sessions, led by Jet, were both educational and transformative, allowing them to explore and empathise with the challenges faced by endangered species.
- Forest Bathing: They experienced the calming and restorative practice of forest bathing, immersing themselves in the natural surroundings to enhance their connection with nature.
Looking Ahead:
Alicia and Ella’s active participation and engagement in these activities have left a strong impression on the Sustainability team. Their enthusiasm and the skills they’ve acquired are sure to have a positive impact on our school’s sustainability initiatives. We eagerly anticipate the contributions they will make to our sustainability team and are excited to see how their experiences will inspire others.
