House Athletics Carnival
On Tuesday, we had our House Athletics Carnival, where students were given the opportunity to show off their athletic skills! We jumped, threw and sprinted our hearts out, all competing for that first place ribbon and Houses were competing for the ancient trophy. The competitive and fun spirit throughout our College is amazing and everyone who participated did so well on the day! There were a number of students supporting their friends from the sidelines and cheering them on.
One of the highlights of the day would have to be the ‘Fastest 100m’ race, where the fastest student from each year level was in the spotlight. The whole school gathered to see them race. It was a close race, but in the end, Year 8 student, Emily Gamble pulled away and took out first place. Congratulations also to Gabrielle Bienaime (Year 10 Triple Jump) and Emily Smith (800m walk) who both broke records on the day.
Another highlight would most definitely be Brigid House taking back our throne! After tragically losing it to Kildare at the Swimming Carnival, I’m proud to say, comfortably, that fellow Brigid students dominated the Athletics Carnival and walked out of Duncan Mackinnon Reserve with a huge prize, Kilbreda’s timeworn trophy!!
Here are the age champions on the day.
Year | Champion | Runner Up | House Spirit Award |
7 | Olivia Morrow | Matilda Laughlin | Sophie Donnelly and Summer Murphy |
8 | Emily Gamble | Imogen Dickson | Charlotte Bond and Grace Watts |
9 | Jacinta Crowley | Indiana Dickson | Ava Ferguson and Sophie McKeown |
10 | Gabrielle Bienaime | Bridget Koczek | Lucy Beatie and Thea Lambe |
11 | Emily Smith | Stella Mackay | Roisin Mulholland and Ella Taylor |

Overall results on the day were:
1st place: Brigid 1525pts
2nd place: Tullow 1418pts
3rd place: Kildare 1334 pts
4th place: Delany 1228 pts
It was amazing to see everyone getting out there and having a go. A special mention goes out to the teachers and students involved in making the day so great!

CGSAV Swimming
On Thursday 23 March, 40 students across Years 7 to12 headed to MSAC to compete in the annual CGSAV Swimming Competition. Despite the huge thunderstorms that occurred earlier in the day, the sun came out shining lifting everyone’s spirits and furthering the excitement of the night ahead. After weeks of preparation and early morning training, the evening started with much excitement and anticipation to dive into the pool and swim to everyone’s best ability.
Throughout the night there were many wonderful results with almost all of the freestyle relay teams placing in the top 3 as well as excellent individual event results. This year we had one of our best results ever placing second overall (just 18 points off first place) out of eight schools. The Juniors and Intermediate swimmers both placed first overall in their age divisions and the Seniors placed third.
This was my last ever Swimming Competition at Kilbreda and it was an amazing way to end the wonderful swimming journey that the College has allowed me to undertake over the past six years. Overall the night was a great success with many happy memories made.
