AFL Football Clinic

Last week 2 members of the St Kilda Football Club AFLW and VFLW teams came to Kilbreda to run a football clinic. We had about 12 students participate in the clinic working on a variety of skills.

Hand passing drills, kicking to the target drills, marking the ball, communication with their partner and then putting all of these skills together in some modified games.

The students really enjoyed the variety of the drills and the feedback given by the facilitators.

The students were able to ask questions at the end to find out a little more about the hours of commitment to training sessions; what their pathway has been to be able to play at the AFLW and VFLW level and the experience of playing in a Grand Final game.

Thanks to the following students who participated in the clinic:

Matilda Gray, Olivia Fountain, Chloe Errante, Ava Gellie, Sadie Sanders, Amy Chapman, Aiofe Cahill, Matilda Laughlin, Lily Dixon, Zoe Batey and Ruby Marsh-Bibb.

Basketball Championship

On Thursday our Senior basketball team competed in the first round of the Champions Cup competition. This competition has schools from all over Victoria and is the highest level of school basketball that can be played. The team had a close loss to Berwick College in their first game but comfortably defeated Yarra Valley Grammar to finish top of their pool and progress straight through to the Elite 8 competition later this month.

Players:

Ella Wickstrom, Jas Perry, Josie Friend, Olivia Simurina, Bianca San Jose, Neve Lamb, Meghna Vindhram, Olivia Murphy and Lucy Cracknell.

CGSAV Futsal

It was a fantastic day out at the CGSAV futsal competition at MSAC. The Seniors started off with an incredible goal in the first few minutes of the game in round 1 despite St Columba’s going on to win the game 4-1. The team came up against some tough opposition throughout the day with the likes of St Aloysius and Killester. We finished the day with a strong 5-0 win against St Mary’s. The team demonstrated incredible team work and communication, and most of all thoroughly enjoyed representing Kilbreda.

The Intermediate futsal team had great success with some solid wins against teams such as Ave Maria and Killester. Finishing just outside of the finals, the team proved to be an extremely strong competitor who challenged every team they came up against.

The Junior Futsal team arrived at MSAC filled with positivity for the day ahead. They were ably lead all day by our Year 8 leaders who have been through the experience before. We battled hard all day and being undefeated earnt us the opportunity to play in a semi final, finishing the rounds in second place. It would be fair to say that the team lifted for the game as they contested strongly for each possession in a great contest against our Futsal arch rivals Killester. With some late goals we got the “W” and progressed to the grand final against St. Columba’s. In a hard fought contest St. Columba’s scored early. We worked away managing to level up before St. Columba’s ran away with it in the second half. Thanks so much to the team. Their enthusiasm for the sport make it a joy. Remember we always have next year.

Overall, it was a wonderful day with many students feeling proud of their efforts throughout the day
