Basketball, Badminton and Futsal

Intermediate teams competed in the interschool competition at Monash University. They played Basketball, Badminton and Futsal against OLSH (Bentleigh), SHGC (Oakleigh) and Killester (Springvale).
All teams played four games including the semi final games.

The Futsal A team and the Basketball A and B teams made it into their Grand Final games. The Basketball A team went on to win the Final against SHGC. The Badminton teams played exceptionally well and their performance in the second game against Killester definitely improved the second time around in the first vs fourth game.

Cross Country

Recently we had our interschool CGSAV Cross Country, which meant that, much to our horror, we had to arrive at school at 7.00am. However, it was entirely worth it as we were the first school to arrive and able to claim our choice of seating and tables.

Now, one thing you must know about Cross Country is that it is exceedingly different to normal road running. This became very apparent as Ms Clark walked us through the course and we realised the extremities of the conditions we faced. Massive hills, uneven ground, long grass, mud, rabbit holes and painfully sharp sticks that seemed to scratch at every centimetre of exposed skin. On top of that, we were faced with the deep, unfortunate hardship of wind which reached up to nearly 50 km/h. The conditions were difficult and with Kilbreda being in Division 1 we knew we had some tough races ahead of us.

However, much to the grit and determination of our students, everyone performed especially well and persevered through some pretty tough challenges. And hey, we even managed to get some vital SAC study in! (and I passed Maths!). We had some outstanding results individually with many coming in the top 10 in their age group and our school came second overall! These fantastic results were all due to the massive efforts from each student who overcame their own individual nerves and challenges and was able to complete what was a very hard course.

As always, a sports day is not complete without a Maccas run and I know we were all dreaming of those ‘Golden Arches’ when we got onto the bus. I know personally that the Big Mac tasted especially good!

Intermediates – 4th

The Intermediate Football Team arrived at Royal Park filled with positivity for the day ahead. They were ably led all day by our key forward, Riley Dow. We battled hard all day which earnt us the opportunity to play in the first semi final. It would be fair to say that the team lifted for the game as they contested strongly for each possession. However, at the siren we were down by a couple of goals. Thank you so much to the team. Their enthusiasm for the sport made it a joy!

Seniors – 2nd

The Senior Team relished the challenge of the move up to Division 1 and were strong in their first two games to qualify for the semi-finals. A gritty win against Our Lady of Mercy in the semi saw the team advance into the Grand Final where they came up against a very strong Sion outfit. By that stage, injuries and early departures for SACs and other commitments left us with 14 players. The team fought on impressively until the final siren and managed to sneak a late goal. A big thank you to Lucia Dennis, Lily Barclay, Tilly Harrison and Riley Dow for helping out once their commitments with the Intermediate team were finished.
