Book Week 2024 at Kilbreda College featured everything reading, magic and fun; running with the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) captivating theme, ‘Reading is Magic.’

We experienced a plethora of ways to enjoy reading, including:

• ‘Edible Books’ where students baked and decorated enchanting cakes based on books, book characters or themes. The creativity and presentation of all entrants amazed us all and made it especially difficult for our judges to select winners.

• The annual Book Week Trivia Quiz was super energetic and competitive, and saw the teachers narrowly come second to the students in a hotly contested outcome.

• The Book Fair, sponsored by QBD books, was an opportunity for the school community to donate and select books to the library or to support Wellsprings for Women. An added bonus was that through book sales, we have also been able to support the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP).

• Our magical week concluded with a Banana Trick Workshop presented by our astounding Librarian, and a Magic Tricks Showcase, accorded by our talented ‘Student Magicians,’ each having fully studied their digests of Magic Tricks.
