Digital Technologies
DTE And STEM – A Year in Review
What a fantastic year it’s been in DTE and STEM. Extracurricular activities such as LEGO Masters workshops, Big Day in Excursions, STEM MAD competitions, Kilbreda in STEM morning teas, PI and periodic table of the elements reciting competitions, Brainary Robotic workshops, Akorn engineering challenges, Science Talent Search and Grok programming competitions have all enriched our students and brought their love of STEM learning alive. Within the DTE classrooms, the topics have ranged from robotics, Microbits, programming in Python, cybersecurity, inventing innovative solutions, animation, 3D printing, game design, data analytics, web development, Photoshop tasks and movie making.
We are proud of the way our students have adapted to the variety of Digital Technology tasks and digital literacy skills and we look forward to building on these skills in 2025!
Year 9 Emerging Technologies
Term 4 has been all about robots in Year 9 Emerging Technologies. We had a visit from Sam Kingsley from the Brainary, who brought in new robots for us to work with and helped us explore the many uses for robots in today’s world.
Students have also been building the First LEGO League Missions and completing as many challenges as possible with LEGO SPIKE Prime. In our last lesson we ran a competition to see which group’s robot could garner the most points and Maddie and Samaira’s team won with over 100 points!
Year 7 Digital Technology
We love Term 4 in Year 7 and 8 because we get to make movies using Adobe Premiere Pro! Year 7s learnt the basic skills such as working with a timeline, editing clips, adding captions, text, transitions and special effects. They created food ads, travel movies and even fun Christmas movies using the green screen. Year 8s created music videos in small groups and thoroughly enjoyed working with choreography, camera angles and shots and bringing it all together in Adobe Premiere Pro. It’s always a fun lesson watching those finished music videos!
