Visual Arts Week Highlights

Last week, our school celebrated Visual Arts Week with a vibrant array of student activities spanning Art, Visual Communication Design and Media.

On Monday 26 August a collaborative art project kicked off, where students came together to create a collective artwork honouring fathers and other significant male figures in their lives. The project, which was a hit amongst participants, continued through until Friday, with many more students adding their personal touches and contributions to the evolving piece.

In the Visual Communication Design segment, students engaged in scratch art card creation, where they also penned heartfelt gratitude messages to individuals who hold special places in their hearts. The theme of design seamlessly carried through to Thursday in Media, when students utilised Canva to craft and produce cards for the Royal Children’s Hospital. This initiative was a continuation of the Community Action Group’s earlier hand-drawn card project, further extending their creative outreach.

Overall, Visual Arts Week was a success, showcasing the creativity and community spirit of our students while contributing meaningful artwork to both personal connections and charitable causes.

Thanks to Hannah Young and Elizabeth Pound for promoting the week and attending and participating in all the activities.

Teen Chef 2024

In the recent SEGAP Teen Chef competition at Killester College, Team Kilbreda showcased their culinary prowess and teamwork, earning a well-deserved bronze medal. The competition, judged by esteemed members of the Australian Culinary Federation, challenged the teams to create an impressive two-course meal.

Team Kilbreda’s menu was a delightful international journey: a flavourful Sri Lankan chicken curry paired with dhal, pol sambol, raita, and saffron rice. For dessert, they crafted a stunning chocolate dome filled with chocolate mousse, raspberry gel, and chocolate brownie, elegantly garnished with honeycomb and almond flakes.

Congratulations to Maddison Terblanche, Amelia Presnell, Tahlia Morris, and Charlotte Hewitson (Year 11) for their dedication and outstanding performance. Their supportive teamwork was evident throughout the competition, making their bronze medal achievement all the more impressive.

2024 Visual Arts and Design and Technologies Exhibition

The 2024 Visual Arts and Design and Technologies Exhibition will be held on Thursday 10 October. Congratulations to Year 10 student Sia Seguel, whose design was selected to use on the billboard advertisement for the event.
