Design and Technologies Week 22 – 26 July

Design and Technologies week encourages students to participate in a number of Food and Textiles related activities.

This is a summary of the events during Design and Technologies week:

  • Monday: The week began with students going to the Textiles room where they learned how to tie dye socks and small bags. Leaders, Lucy and Caitlyn demonstrated the process, and students created colourful socks and bags.
  • Tuesday: Students worked on creating and decorating “tic toc” biscuits to resemble teacups. They concentrated as they used melted white chocolate to attach handles to the biscuits, resulting in lots of smiles with the finished product.
  • Wednesday: The day featured fresh fruit platters prepared by the VET Hospitality students and Ms. Downie. The platters included a variety of colourful fruits, cheese, and kabana, enjoyed by both students and staff.
  • Thursday: A cooking masterclass was attended by thirty students, where Mr. McPhee demonstrated how to make Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni. Students had the opportunity to taste the dish after the demonstration.
  • Friday: The week concluded with a relaxing session in the meeting room where leaders screened the classic movie “The Devil Wears Prada”. Students enjoyed unwinding and watching the movie together.

Overall, Design and Technologies week was filled with creative activities, culinary delights, and a touch of cinematic enjoyment, providing students with a diverse and engaging educational experience.

Thanks to Caitlyn Singleton and Lucy Curry, our Design and Technologies leaders, for helping to run all the activities this week and encouraging many students to participate.

Visual Arts – Art Creative Practice

The Year 12 Art Creative Practice students have been working on their folios, refining their ideas for their next big final.

The Visual Arts Leaders, Hannah Young and Elizabeth Pound have reflected on their experience.

“We have been adding to our designs and ideas after collaborating and gaining feedback from our unit 3 critiques. The critiques helped us to offer new insights and opinions about our design processes. Currently we are in the refinement stages- making final adjustments and working on mockups before starting finals. Our class is highly active in providing constructive and positive feedback and each idea and creative process is insightful and distinctive to each individual. Everyone is working hard to begin to create the finals and see the end results, ready for the Visual Arts and Design and Technologies Exhibition show later in the year!”

Unit 4 Visual Communication Design

This year’s Visual Communication Design students are well into the production of their Unit 4 folios. Despite the large and demanding work-load, the students have fully embraced the challenge. Depending on their future career direction and interests, they are exploring their preferred designs from any of the four different fields such as Object design, Messages, Environments, and Interactive Experiences.

When asked what the worst and the best part of this course is, the students responded that the best is that they can pursue their passion through the development of their chosen industry, and the worst, the huge demand on their time. From a teacher’s perspective, despite both the struggles and achievements, it is always such a privilege and joy to be a part of this tremendously important journey towards the next stage of their lives.
