Music By Candlelight

On Wednesday 5 June, friends and family of the Kilbreda Music community gathered in Mary Dalton Hall to enjoy a relaxed, candlelit evening of performances from our VCE and Ensemble Immersion program students. The night opened with two songs by the Kilbreda Chorale. One song included an original composition by Melbourne based composer, Marc Puddy called “My Imagination”. Our Beginner Strings and Band Academy students debuted their first ever performances, despite many of them only having learnt their instruments for the past few months!

The Guitar Ensemble performed a set of acoustic pieces, one with an impromptu flute solo by our wonderful tutor, Ms Victoria Landy! Our Percussion Ensemble set the stage on fire to loud cheers at the end and the String Ensemble, Orchestra and Concert Band showcased a range of styles of music, displaying exceptional team work skills under the direction of their conductors.

Throughout the night our Year 11 and 12 VCE students performed solo and ensemble pieces as part of their assessment and are commended for presenting with confidence and professionalism. Our audience was able to enjoy hot drinks, snacks and food from local take away stores, as well as socialising with other families involved in the program. The night concluded with a massed item of “When You Believe” from The Prince of Egypt, aptly arranged by Mrs Rebecca Harkin for all of our ensemble instruments as well as the Chorale. It was a truly uplifting experience to see such a large ensemble perform this lovely piece.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mr Matthew Graham, Mrs Andrea Halliday, Mrs Jane Ward, Mrs Julie Kipps, the Maintenance, Development and Canteen teams and our Music and classroom teaching staff for their efforts in bringing this night together. Thank you to everyone involved for their support of the Music Program and giving students the opportunity to perform at such an event.

Ever Wanted to Learn the Piano?

The piano is a large and dynamic instrument capable of producing incredible and exciting sounds. On it you can play anything from Classical to Jazz, Pop, Rock and even film music! There is a lot of fun to be had in playing the piano and the options of playing as a soloist, accompanist or ensemble member are all at your fingertips (literally!)

We now have vacancies for lessons starting Term 3. Please contact Ms Rabbetts or Mr Schepis for more information or drop in and meet our piano tutor, Ms Vayenas in the Music Centre on Fridays.
