Co-Curricular Performing Arts

Throughout Terms 3 and 4, our vocal tutor, Ms Jennie Mortimer, and Performing Arts Trainee, Mr Dominic Schepis, have been working on a project with a selected group of vocal students rehearsing, editing and recording a vocal solo. Our school studio was the perfect place for this. It is complete with high-tech equipment including the industry standard software, Pro-Tools, alongside the expertise of Mr Matthew Graham, which allowed students to experience being a recording star, and the process of laying down tracks. During their private vocal lessons, students were coached by Ms Mortimer to ensure they produced their best sound. A special congratulations goes to Mr Dominic Schepis for learning and mastering the technology as a part of his Traineeship!

Well done to all students. We hope you and your families enjoy the product of all of your hard work!

Student Reflections – Vocal Recording Studio Sessions

In our singing lessons with Ms Mortimer we have learned the process of recording and completing a song file. First we picked a song, practised it and then we went into the recording studio with the backing track to record. In the studio we learned the way the song is made and how the equipment allows you to hear the song as well as your voice. After this, it gets put into a file and we get to play and enjoy it with our family. The experience has been valuable because I experienced firsthand how music is made behind the scenes, and I also had fun creating something with my own voice.

Last term, I had the amazing opportunity to record a song. The recording process was so fun! I had the amazing experience to understand what takes place when creating music and how it sounds with all the equipment. I really enjoyed being a part of this opportunity and learning about what takes place within a recording studio. It was a lot of fun and hope to experience it again someday.
