Reflecting on the 2024 Academic Year
As the 2024 academic year comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude and pride as I reflect on the many achievements and memorable moments that have defined this year at Kilbreda College. It has been a year of celebration, growth, and community, and I am deeply honoured to have shared it with you all.
This past week has exemplified the vibrant spirit of Kilbreda. We have revelled in the joy of our annual Christmas Music Concert, prepared for the excitement of the Year 10 Social, and experienced the privilege of performing at the Cathedral. Welcoming new students through our Headstart program and Making Connections afternoon has highlighted the strength of our community as we look toward the future. Meanwhile, our planning for 2025 and our focus on hospitality, as part of the Kildare Ministries Student Leadership Conference, reflect our ongoing commitment to the values that guide us.
In the week ahead, we will celebrate the incredible achievements of our students during College assemblies and our Celebration of Achievement evening. Whether in academics, co-curricular activities, or service to the community, our students have excelled, showcasing their talents, dedication, and resilience. As Michelle Obama so powerfully stated, “Empower yourselves with a good education, then get out there and use that education to build a country of your boundless promise.” This sentiment beautifully captures the aspirations we hold for our graduating Year 12 students as they step into the next stage of their lives.
This year, as we celebrated our 120th anniversary, we have achieved remarkable milestones. From outstanding VCE and VCE VM results to the creativity and brilliance of our Performing Arts productions, Frozen Junior and Shrek, this year has been extraordinary. Our CGSAV sporting teams have shone, particularly our Senior Basketball Team, and our students’ talents were on full display during the Visual Arts, Design, and Technology Expo. Debaters, public speakers, and STEM MAD participants have excelled in their fields. Beyond the classroom, students embraced opportunities to broaden their perspectives and challenge themselves through experiences such as the European Politics and History tour, Duke of Edinburgh hikes, and the Central Australia trip. These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and determination of our students, supported by the unwavering commitment of our staff.
Throughout the year, I have had the privilege of witnessing the growth and development of each Kilbreda girl. It is my hope that every student has discovered her passions, talents, and interests, supported by the strong network of care and guidance that defines our community. The significance of fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for our students cannot be underestimated. Together, we have ensured that Kilbreda remains a place where students feel valued, encouraged, and empowered to thrive.
I extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, whose passion and expertise drive the success of our students. Your commitment to nurturing a culture of strength and kindliness at Kilbreda College is inspiring. It is through your care and dedication that our students are empowered to reach their potential. To our Year 12 teachers, thank you for your tireless efforts in supporting our graduating students as they prepared to embrace the next chapter of their journeys.
At this time, we also farewell several valued staff members who have made significant contributions to our community: Ms Nicola O’Shea, Ms Mikayla Cotsis, Ms Isabella Renner, Mrs Kellie Strauss, Mrs Andrea Halliday, Ms Sofia Bondarenko, Ms Debra Greaves, Mr James Brown, Ms Victoria Landy, and Mr Joshua Hu. Each of these individuals has enriched the Kilbreda story, and we wish them every success in their future endeavours. As we welcome new staff for 2025, we are excited about the expertise and fresh perspectives they will bring.
Finally, I wish every member of the Kilbreda College community a joyous and restful Christmas. This season is a time for connection, reflection, and hope – a value we have embraced throughout 2024. May you cherish the precious moments spent with loved ones and find renewal for the year ahead.
Thank you for your continued support and may the spirit of strength and kindliness guide us all as we step into 2025.
May the harmony of Christmas bring you peace;
The joy of Christmas give you hope,
And the spirit of Christmas, grant you with many blessings.
