Acting Principal
As we reach the end of Term 3, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. This term has been filled with learning, laughter, and countless moments of growth as our students have explored their passions, discovered their sense of purpose, and continued their journeys towards becoming the people they were born to be.
On the eve of Brigidine Day, it’s a fitting time to pause and reflect on the spirit of St. Brigid, so generously bestowed on us by the Brigidine Sisters. This spirit lives on vibrantly in our Kilbreda community, evident in our ‘Dare to Do’ mentality – our ability to challenge the status quo, cast aside doubts and fears, and courageously pursue our true selves. This boldness to push boundaries and embrace our individual and collective strengths is what makes Kilbreda truly special.
This ‘Dare to Do’ spirit has been evident in so many of our achievements this term. It shines through in the innovative and impactful STEM MAD social justice projects, where students applied their knowledge and creativity to address real-world challenges. It’s reflected in the stunning mosaics created by our Year 12 VCE VM students in collaboration with Yarrabah, and in the remarkable solo performances by our VCE music students, each pushing the boundaries of their talent.
We see this spirit in our Year 11 students who bravely stepped forward to run for College Captain and in the 22 Year 10 students who have chosen physics as part of their VCE pathway for 2025, embracing the challenge of new learning. It was also on display in the imaginative cakes designed for Book Week and the outstanding folio work that highlighted the depth of artistic talent within our school.
Our community’s compassion and generosity were evident in our fundraising efforts for the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project and the thoughtful cards created by our Community Action Groups for sick children. And of course, we continue to be inspired by the exploits of our alumnae, who carry Kilbreda’s values of strength and kindliness into the world, making a tangible impact.
Each of these achievements reflects the enduring spirit of St. Brigid and the Brigidine Sisters – a spirit that encourages us to ‘Dare to Do,’ to challenge the status quo, and to make a difference in our world.
As I walked through the atrium today, I was reminded that our Year 12 students have just ten formal days of school remaining. This moment led me to reflect on the remarkable legacy of the Class of 2024 and the lasting impact they have had on our community. They have led Kilbreda with authenticity, strength, kindliness, and compassion. Their curiosity, adventurous spirit, and commitment to community embody our ethos of daring to dream and do – to challenge the status quo and strive to create a better world.
As they approach their final assessment tasks in their VCE VM studies and prepare for the upcoming VCAA exam period, we hold each of our Year 12 students and their families in our thoughts and prayers. May they continue to draw on the strength and courage they have developed throughout their time at Kilbreda, and may they embrace the future with the same daring spirit that has defined their journey here.
As we conclude this term, I would like to take a moment to recognise the tremendous efforts of our students, staff, and families who have made Term 3 such a resounding success. The achievements we’ve celebrated throughout the term truly reflect the heart and spirit of Kilbreda College – the spirit of St. Brigid, the courage to ‘Dare to Do,’ and the resilience to grow, learn, and give back to our community.
As we look forward to the final term of the year, I encourage our students to use the spring break as a time to rest, recharge, and reflect on all they’ve achieved. To our families, I extend my gratitude for your unwavering support and partnership in the learning journey. May this break offer you the chance to relax and enjoy some well-deserved time with loved ones.
I wish everyone a peaceful and rejuvenating spring break, and I look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for the exciting term ahead.
St. Brigid’s Blessing
May Brigid bless the house wherein you dwell
Bless every fireside every wall and door
Bless every heart that beats beneath its roof
Bless every hand that toils to bring it joy
Bless every foot that walks its portals through
May Brigid bless the house that shelters you.
