Rebecca - Year 12  -  2017 College Co-Captain

Kilbreda has offered me so many amazing opportunities over my years here. I am so thankful for all the amazing experiences that I have had in all aspects from academics to sports.

Since there have been so many opportunities presented to us here, my goal was to get involved in literally as many activities, clubs, teams and leadership positions as I could. This was the best decision I could have ever made because from this I have made amazing friends, gained life skills, confidence and have made some incredible memories. In the sports scene I have been involved in tennis, hockey, badminton, volleyball, softball and athletics. Being part of a sports team allowed me to make more friends not only in school but also from other schools around the area as well.

In academics if there was any Science, Maths or Language competition, I took the opportunity to participate. I’ve been involved in Brain Bee, The Titration Stakes Competitions, Language Perfect and more. From getting involved in extra-curricular activities like these I was chosen to represent Kilbreda in the Monash University Scholars program which has also been very beneficial for my studies and resilience.

In the Creative Arts side of Kilbreda life, everyone is given the opportunity to take up different instruments of your choice and then you are able to come together with your peers and perform in band. I was part of the choir even though I am not the best singer and I play both clarinet and piano. I joined the training band in Year 7 and today I am now in the senior Kilbreda and St Bedes Wind Symphony. This is one of the most rewarding programs. We perform at many major school events and even got to travel to South Australia and take part in the Mount Gambier Jazz festival. One of the most exciting programs I was a part of was the Radio Program where we hosted a local radio program. It was so cool to hear ourselves discussing a range of different topics on the radio.

Kilbreda has also given me the ability to gain confidence and extend myself through the various leadership positions they have to offer. One of the best groups I’ve been a part of has been Justice and Democracy because this program allowed us to give back and get involved in social justice issues in the community. Throughout my years here I have been class captain, in the high resolves leadership program, the Duke of Edinburgh program, peer support, the student representative council and in my final year here I am lucky enough to represent the school as Kilbreda’s Co- College Captain.

These amazing opportunities have allowed me to better myself form friendships and develop skills for my future. Kilbreda has pushed me to achieve my goals and has supported me every step along the journey. Kilbreda gives everyone the ability to explore their area of interest and there are always new things to try. I highly recommend taking advantage of every opportunity you can and to explore out of your comfort zone because you will not regret it.
