Jacinta Devlin - Learning Leader: Science

I love to see students believe in what they can achieve through science and creative and critical thinking. Seeing students learn, reason, experiment and explore solutions to problems makes coming to work each day exciting. Our College community is a welcoming and safe space that nurtures us all through a deep connection and enables staff and students to thrive. It is a privilege to work alongside students with dedicated and caring staff. To share in learning of the mysteries of the natural world- from the scale of the sub-atomic particle, the wonders of life on Earth, to the vastness of the cosmos is an ongoing source of delight and makes my job one I enjoy.

At Kilbreda, in Year 7 to Year 10 Science classes, students are exposed to a range of topic areas from the biological, chemical, physical, earth and space science fields as prescribed by the Victorian Curriculum. Almost all Science classes are conducted in a dedicated laboratory to allow a practical approach to learning. Additional interest based electives of Forensics Science, Environmental Science and Sustainability and Medical Science and Psychology are offered to students in Years 9 and 10. These electives enhance the core science taught in class and opened up new learning contexts and possible new career pathways. VCE Sciences consist of Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Psychology. Students embrace each study and there is scope to complete an accelerated study of VCE Biology or Psychology for suitable candidates

Vince Camera - Physical Education Teacher

After graduating in 2008, I then commenced my teaching journey at Kilbreda in 2009 and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far.  It is the Kilbreda family, both staff and students, that make it such an amazing place to work. I feel very blessed to be part of this wonderful College community.

I have always had a passion for Physical Education and Sport and I thoroughly enjoy teaching the theory side of such a practical subject.  The content is something that students are able to relate to and apply even once they leave the College in their own training.  The part of teaching that I find most rewarding is hearing stories of past students, which go on to work in Exercise Science and Human Movement roles.

At the College, in addition to the Physical Education curriculum, we also offer many opportunities for students to participate in cocurricular sport. For some students our programs are a chance to display their immense skill and fitness and for others, it is simply an opportunity to be involved in an activity they have never competed in. I have enjoyed training many of the cocurricular sporting teams during my time at the College.

Adrienne Donoghue - Learning Leader: Digital Technologies

As a past pupil myself, I am very passionate about providing students with the high quality experiences I received as part of my education at the College. I’m so proud of being part of a learning and teaching community with such a rich history! I also really want to help students learn about the new and emerging technologies that did not quite exist when I was here!

I love teaching in an environment where everyone's talents and passions are recognised and celebrated. From building and programming robots, playing in a band or school production, dancing on the stage during Brigidine Day or learning a fantastic language like Japanese, there are so many wonderful opportunities for everyone here at our College.

In my Digital Technologies (DTE) learning area, in Years 7 to 9, we provide opportunities for our students to be involved in programming/coding, game design, animation, web design, 3D printing, data visualisation, movie making and robotics. Where possible, we aim to encourage the use of industry standard software (e.g. Adobe products and software such as Unity). Students are also introduced to a range of Google Apps for Learning such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms, all of which are designed to promote collaborative ways of working. In Year 10, we offer a specialist Programming, Gaming and Web Design course as an elective. VCE Applied Computing and Data Analytics are offered at the senior levels. We also run an optional enhancement Techbots Club for students interested in further extending their digital technologies skills.
