2019 Commencement of the Year Assembly

Principal, Ms Nicole Mangelsdorf congratulates 2018 DUX, Ciara Murray

On 13 February, the College Community gathered together to celebrate the 2019 Commencement of the Year Assembly. Here, we acknowledged the students who excelled in the VCE in 2018 and also welcomed our new Senior and Middle School Leadership Teams for 2019.

We were delighted to hear from Ciara Murray, College DUX, who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 99.25. Ciara gave a wonderful speech that captured the audience, stating “Thank you to the Kilbreda College Community and my amazing parents and friends who motivated me to work hard and encouraged me to strive for excellence”. These sentiments perfectly embody what it takes to achieve great things as Ciara highlighted support and encouragement as factors of her success.

During the assembly, Principal, Ms Nicole Mangelsdorf, spoke of what it takes to achieve outstanding results in recognition of our Class of 2018 and as a note for future leaders. “Today we acknowledge and celebrate students who excelled in the VCE in 2018. These students are to be commended for the commitment and dedication they have shown towards their studies over the years, which has led to their outstanding results. Achieving results such as these does not come simply from talent; it comes from hard work, persistence and effort. We also look forward to recognising leaders within our college, young women who embody our college values and are committed to serving this community”.

In recognition of 115 years of education at the College, Ms Mangelsdorf also talked about our rich history as far back as 1887 where the College (known formerly as The Mentone Coffee Palace) was built and touched on the changes that have occurred with the building, surrounds, student population and curriculum. She went on to express, “While much has changed significantly over these 115 years what is at the heart of our school community remains unchanged. Since its opening in 1904, this school community has been guided and inspired by the Brigidine Sisters and the values they have instilled.”

There were many other stand out moments at the Assembly including the Year 7 Welcome Procession, multiple award recipients from the Class of 2018, inspiring speeches from members of the Staff and Student Leadership Teams, introduction of new leaders and an unveiling of magnificent artwork by Boon Wurrung Artist, Adam Magennis.

It will certainly be an occasion to remember! We again congratulate our Class of 2018 and wish our new leaders and Class of 2019 great success for the year ahead.
