Kilbreda students qualify for RACI Titration Stakes National Final!

24 students from Years 10, 11 and 12 participated in this year’s RACI Titration Stakes competition. Eight teams of three went up against 327 other teams from the state.

Each team was required to perform two sets of acid-base titrations to determine the concentration of one of three samples of ethanoic acid. There was a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the task.

The top 35 teams in the Victorian competition were selected for the National Finals, which took place this week, to determine the top school in Australia.

Special congratulations must go to the team of Nat, Clara and Kate who finished 25th in the state. Their combined totals had them 0.03M off the actual concentration which is closer than the Australian standard! This led them to the National Finals which took place Monday 1 October in the school labs. We will find out the results over the next few weeks and wish them the best of luck.

The competition was a great opportunity for students to practise and refine their lab skills and apply their understanding of acids, bases and neutralisation reactions.
