Music Theatre Guild Nomination


We are very proud that Mrs Nicole Everett, one of our incredible Performing Arts teachers at the College, has been nominated for the Junior Section Choreography Award by the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria, for her amazing work on our College production, Mary Poppins – The Broadway Musical.

The Music Theatre Guild was established in 1986 and is a not-for-profit organisation for the ongoing support, encouragement and development of non-professional music theatre in Victoria.

The Bruce Awards celebrate both the Open and Junior production categories, with the Junior category recognising performers and staff from secondary schools across Victoria. The Junior judging panel follow a set of guidelines and criteria set out by the Music Theatre Guild in regards to nominations and commendations.

Nicole is one of eight nominees for her incredible choreography for Mary Poppins – The Broadway Musical. The criteria for receiving a nomination in the choreography category included:

• Originality

• Supports the Director and Musical Directors vision, so that all elements of movement and dance work as part of the larger picture

• Suits the style of the music and matches the genre or period

• Suits the abilities of the performers and caters effectively for different skill levels

• Variety across musical numbers

• Variety within routines, for example using different rhythms, spacing, intensity, climaxes

• Overcomes any special challenges, for example limitations of stage space, costumes

• Creative use of performance space

• Evidence of effective rehearsal techniques

The nominees will be celebrated and recipients announced at the 33rd Bruce Awards Ceremony to be held on Saturday 14 December.
