Write a Book in a Day

Yesterday around 80 students came to the Library on their student-free day to complete the annual ‘Write a Book in a Day’ (WABIAD) competition. What a great vibe there was with 11 teams competing, the largest number of students we have ever had participating! Starting at 8.00am and finishing by 8.00pm, the authors and illustrators wrote original stories based on five parameters, which had to contain five random words provided by the WABIAD Board.  The books also had to include some identifiable Australian content and be between 3,500 to 5,000 words long. Suitability for the target audience (children between 10 to 16 years of age) also had to be considered. In their comfiest ‘Oodies’ and with energy from lots of snacks and a delicious pizza dinner, all stories were completed. Through The Kids’ Cancer Project, these stories will be shared with hospitals around Australia for families and children undergoing treatment to enjoy.
