KILBREDA in STEM

With many of our students expressing interests in pursuing STEM-related careers, our annual Kilbreda in STEM Morning Tea provided a unique opportunity for them to gain insights into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) from a woman’s perspective.

The guests heard from inspirational speakers who are past pupils, sharing their journeys and tips on studying and working in STEM industries to a group of current students who were invited due to their passions around STEM.

Sarah Massie (2018) is a research assistant with the Murdoch Children’s Research and spoke about her work in stem cell research, Giulia Cinquegrana (2013) told us about what it is like to work as an astrophysicist and Sarah McConnell (2001) shared her insight into her career as an environment, rehabilitation and mine closure specialist, which sees her travelling the globe. All three women shared what it is like to work in male dominated industries, the challenges they have faced, and how they have overcome these.

After enjoying delicious food, the morning ended with a panel of more recent graduates from the Class of 2023 who are studying their STEM related degrees. We thank the Learning Leaders of Science and Digital Technologies, Sarah Chuck and Adrienne Donoghue, for providing this wonderful engagement opportunity for our STEM leaders of the future.
