The Big Science Competition
On 7 and 8 May, 47 students from Year to 10 participated in the Big Science Competition. Kilbreda students have participated in the annual competition organised by Australian Science Innovations for many years. Students complete the competition online and compete against students from around the nation. Thank you to the students who showed courage by giving the competition a go for the first time, as well as to those who compete every year. We wait in anticipation for the results.

Science Talent Search (STS) 2024
STS is a competition open to all Victorian students. You can compete in divisions such as inventions, creative writing, posters, games, working models, photography and much more. STS is for everybody: for those planning a career in sciences or technology, for those interested in scientific hobbies, or for those concerned enough to present a point of view about science through the medium of poster, essay, video, photography, games or computer programs.

The theme this year is: Species Survival – more than just sustainability.
14 Kilbreda students will be competing in STS this year. Over the next three months, they will complete a project in their chosen division and film an oral presentation that explains their piece of work. We look forward to seeing the passion and creativity that students will put into their project.
Melbourne University Girl Power in Engineering and IT program
Girl Power in Engineering and IT is a program for female high school students, contributing towards gender parity in engineering and IT disciplines. This is for girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Commencing in Year 9, approximately 40 students are selected to participate in the camp during the July term holidays, where they will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about careers in engineering and IT
- Participate in hands-on interactive workshops
- Interact with University of Melbourne engineering and IT students
- Hear from industry and our academic staff about engineering and IT issues
- Form a network of like-minded individuals
Congratulations to Jessica Griffith, Pratima Thomas and Jayda Sly, who have made it to the second stage of the application process which includes an interview. We have our fingers crossed for all three students.
