Yarrabah Community Partnership

Throughout Semester 1, the Yarrabah students have been working with the Year 12 VCE VM students to create their A to Z of Me folios. They are really taking shape!  Usually, around 2.00pm on Thursdays, the action begins. There is always spirited conversation about what letter will be chosen and how this will be represented. The students discuss their favourite things and often print pictures that highlight their interests and passions. It has been delightful to witness such positive and meaningful interaction between the students. We look forward to many more afternoons of joyful collaboration.

Enrichment Day – Salvation Army

The VCE VM students participated in a city tour with the Salvation Army as part of their Enrichment Day program. Students went on a guided walking tour that commenced at Bourke Street and toured past the Parliament House and Treasury Gardens vicinity.

As they navigated the city streets, they paused to engage in activities that helped to challenge stereotypes surrounding social hardship and encourage empathy. Students learnt about homelessness in Australia, hearing real stories, on location, that safely prompted their consideration of people in need.

The workshop was designed to challenge preconceptions, increase knowledge, inspire empathy and provide a platform for social justice activation.
