Gabrielle Condello  -  Graduate - 2010

For me, the Kilbreda tower in Mentone will always represent a kind of home. It was not only the values of the college that resonated with me, but the social responsibility that was encouraged by the staff who led by example.

Having been eager to participate in various groups and activities as a student, I could not have been happier with the opportunities that Kilbreda College offered me, and which in turn paved the way for my future. The greatest I pursued was the ‘Alternative to Schoolies’ volunteer trip to Timor Leste in 2009. Since then I have returned another three times to the young nation for voluntary work and personal interest. The most recent trip involved leading a group of Australians who now have a strong ongoing relationship with the country. It was important for me to impart my passion for Timor to others, as Kilbreda had done to me. As a result of this relationship with Timor Leste and my efforts in a youth volunteer organisation, Rotaract, I was honoured with the City of Frankston Young Citizen of the Year Award in 2013.

I continue to live a socially conscious life, the one that Kilbreda fostered so strongly, seeking opportunities like Rotaract, student exchange to South Africa, and a community development internship in India. I am proud to be a Kilbreda College alumnus, and I encourage all students to seek and take advantage of the opportunities offered. Make the halls your home; you do not yet understand the impact this will have on your life.

Gabrielle Condello completed VCE at Kilbreda in 2010.
