Kilbreda Dance Company

16/10/2019

The Kilbreda Dance Company (KDC) was the initiative of Dance teacher, Ms Cara Mitchell, who started the program in 2018. The primary focus behind the creation of the KDC, was to introduce a group to the College that would allow all students regardless of year level, to connect with the wider student community and to offer an opportunity for students of all abilities to become involved with dance. Whilst Ms Mitchell oversees the KDC, students prepare the choreography and in turn teach the other students.

The KDC is all about student connectedness and the College has seen the company go from strength to strength, with students’ building on their confidence, improving their physical skills and forming new friendships through a shared passion of dance.

The KDC currently has four teams (Coral, Emerald, Aqua and Fuschia) made up of approximately 60 members which include student leaders and participants. They have performed at assemblies, lunch times and soirées to name a few.

This year has seen the introduction of a competition team (Fuschia) who recently entered their first competition, the Southern Federation of Dance Choreographic Competition. The Fuschia team (made up of four Year 7s and six year 8 students) were led by senior students Gemma Mravljak, Tasha Sampieri and Hunter Reynolds who choreographed the two competition items, Red Ribbon and Americano. The team performed both a lyrical and jazz item and went on to receive not one but two first places for both sections! Year 7 student, Emmerson Bryant, also won the all ages solo lyrical section with her own choreographed piece. A wonderful achievement!

We are incredibly proud of all members of the KDC and we look forward to seeing them perform at more College, Community and Competition events in the future.
